This is Us: San Francisco Embraced Toby's New Phase

Por Patricia Landim

Toby has always shown commitment to the Pearson family, but his professional life also needed attention. He landed a better job in San Francisco, which forced his marriage with Kate to be maintained long-distance, which didn't go as planned.

In the series (This is Us), we can see that they filmed on the city streets, especially in the scene where Kate visits her husband and walks down a narrow, hilly street. It's there that she has a "lightbulb moment" about whether to move to San Francisco as well or stay in Los Angeles with the kids to pursue her professional path.

San Francisco is a Californian city located on the west coast of the United States, known for its unique tourist attractions and temperate climate. It is the fourth largest city in California and the 13th largest city in the USA. One of the main tourist attractions is the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, built in 1937, which connects the city to the shores of the Pacific Ocean.

The main steep streets of San Francisco are Lombard Street, Filbert Street, Grant Avenue, and Powell Street. Cable cars have been in operation since 1873 and were designed to help residents climb the city's steep streets. The famous Lombard Street, known as the "Crookedest Street in the World," is lined with a garden full of colorful flowers.

One of the city's main tourist destinations

Pier 39 is a highly popular tourist spot in San Francisco, located in the Fisherman's Wharf area. It is a shopping and entertainment venue that spans two levels and offers stunning views of San Francisco Bay and Alcatraz Island. There are over 110 shops and restaurants at Pier 39, including a variety of gift shops, clothing and accessory stores, bakeries, souvenir shops, art galleries, and more.

Pier 39 is also home to a large colony of California sea lions that can be seen sunbathing on a set of specially constructed wooden platforms. Visitors can observe them up close, listen to their barks, and even take photos. In addition to shopping and sea lions, Pier 39 offers various entertainment options, including a vintage carousel, a 7D cinema, and a classic arcade game room.

The Fisherman's Wharf area, where Pier 39 is located, is also home to several other popular tourist attractions, including Ghirardelli Square, the National Maritime Museum, the San Francisco Bay Aquarium, and the San Francisco seafood market.

The famous Exploratorium Museum

The Exploratorium is an interactive science museum founded in 1969. Considered one of the first interactive science museums in the world, it has over 650 interactive exhibits that explore a wide variety of science topics, including physics, biology, chemistry, geology, psychology, art, and more. The exhibits are designed to be explored by visitors, allowing them to experience and discover scientific concepts for themselves.

The Exploratorium also offers educational programs for children and youth, including school programs, summer camps, and holiday workshops. The museum has a team of trained educators who help visitors explore the exhibits and answer questions.

The museum is located in a historic building on the edge of San Francisco Bay, with stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the city. There is also an outdoor terrace where visitors can observe the bay waters and experience outdoor exhibits.

The museum is open every day of the week except on major holidays and offers tickets for adults, children, and groups. There is also a free day each month for residents of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Alcatraz Prison

Alcatraz Prison was opened in 1934 and operated until 1963. It was considered a maximum-security prison, designed to house the most dangerous and difficult-to-control criminals in the federal prison system. The prison was known as "The Rock" due to its location on a remote and inaccessible island in the middle of San Francisco Bay.

Among the famous prisoners who were held at Alcatraz are Al Capone, George "Machine Gun" Kelly, and Robert Stroud, also known as "The Birdman of Alcatraz." Alcatraz Prison is now a popular tourist attraction managed by the National Park Service. Visitors can take boat tours to the island and explore the prison on a self-guided tour of the prisoners' cells, and the prison library, and learn about the island's history and the prisoners' lives. There is also an exhibition that explores the history of the island's indigenous occupations.

Beaches

San Francisco is known for its beautiful natural landscapes, but beaches are not the city's main attraction, as the seawater is quite cold throughout the year. However, here are some of the main beaches that can be found here:

Ocean Beach - Located at the western end of San Francisco, Ocean Beach is the city's most well-known beach. It is a wide beach, about 3.5 miles long, popular for walking, jogging, and biking. The beach is also known for its strong waves, making it popular among surfers.

Baker Beach - Baker Beach is a beach located at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge and is known for its incredible views of the bridge. The beach is quite secluded and is a great option for those looking to escape the city hustle. Keep in mind that the beach is clothing-optional, so be prepared to encounter some nude sunbathers.

Crissy Field - Crissy Field is a beach located on the San Francisco Bay, near the Golden Gate Bridge. It is a popular spot for walking and biking and offers stunning views of the bridge and the city.

China Beach - China Beach is a small, secluded beach located in a cove near the Sea Cliff neighborhood. The beach is popular for swimming, snorkeling, and fishing and is a quiet alternative for those looking to avoid crowds.

Aquatic Park - Aquatic Park is a beach on the San Francisco Bay, near Fisherman's Wharf. It is a popular spot for swimming, rowing, and sailing. The area also houses the historic Aquatic Park Bathhouse Building, which was built in the 1930s.

Keep in mind that while these beaches can be pleasant to visit, the seawater in San Francisco is quite cold throughout the year, which can make swimming uncomfortable for some people. It is important to be prepared with appropriate clothing and to respect any warnings and safety precautions at the beach.
